JAMES MADISON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL No. 10 IN GARFIELD

NOVEMBER 1, 2018 – GARFIELD, NJ – Today, the New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA), Garfield Public Schools District officials, teachers, students and members of the Garfield community celebrated the opening of the new James Madison Elementary School No. 10. The school is located at 55 Lincoln Place in Garfield.

"The SDA is proud to be working together with the Garfield community to improve the educational experience of these children," said Lizette Delgado Polanco, CEO of the SDA. "This project was made possible because of the commitment that Governor Murphy and the State of New Jersey have made to invest in the lives and futures of New Jersey school students."

The three-story James Madison Elementary School No. 10 is approximately 53,000 square feet and designed to educate approximately 300 students in Kindergarten to 5th Grade. The new school includes 13 general use classrooms, two special education classrooms, four small group instruction rooms, a cafeteria, a multipurpose room with stage (that will be utilized as the gymnasium and for large group assembly), a music room, an art room, a computer room and a media center.

Brockwell & Carrington Contractors, Inc., based in Towaco, NJ began construction on the project in April 2016. Fraytak Veisz Hopkins Duthie, P.C. of Ewing, NJ was the design consultant. The McCloud Group of Hoboken, NJ was the construction manager. The total estimated project costs were approximately $29.7 million.

"The new facility will provide a much-improved learning environment for our students in Garfield," said Nicholas Perrapato, Superintendent, Garfield Public Schools District.

The new James Madison Elementary is the 18th project that the SDA has completed in the Garfield School District. Previously, SDA completed the construction of two new schools – Garfield Early Childhood Center and Garfield Middle School – as well as 15 Health and Safety/Grants/Emergent Projects in the City.
