New Jersey Schools Development Authority Awards Demolition Contract to Ready Site for
Future New School in Pleasantville
TRENTON, NJ – The New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA) recently awarded a $2,232,500 Demolition and Early Site Preparation contract to USA Environmental Management, Inc. for work associated with a new elementary school for the Pleasantville Public School District.
“This demolition and early site preparation contract is the first phase in SDA’s efforts to provide Pleasantville students with a vibrant educational facility,” said SDA CEO Manuel Da Silva. “We look forward to our continued partnership with the Pleasantville School District and our contracting partner as we advance this important work to pave the way for a new school that will serve future generations.”
The approved contract includes the demolition of the existing Decatur Avenue School, removal, and disposal of the entirety of that building and ancillary structures within the boundaries of the 3.06 acre site, as well as site work in preparation for the construction of a new elementary school. The new elementary school will be an approximately 91,000 square foot facility for 600 students in grades Pre-kindergarten to five.
Demolition activities will commence later this summer with abatement of the former Decatur Avenue School, to be followed by demolition. Completion of demolition and early site preparation activities are projected for completion in Spring 2026.
The SDA anticipates issuing an advertisement for design-build services for the new elementary school in the third quarter of this year. The total estimated SDA project costs for the new school, inclusive of the demolition contract, is $65.8 million. This will be the first new school in Pleasantville to be built by the SDA.
