NEW JERSEY SCHOOLS DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY APPROVESEMERGENT PROJECT FUNDING AT NORTH MAIN STREET SCHOOL IN PLEASANTVILLE

June 25, 2019 – TRENTON, NJ – The New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA) announced today that it has approved the release of funds for an Emergent Project at the North Main Street School in Pleasantville.

This Emergent Project is funded by the SDA, and will be managed by the Pleasantville Public Schools District. On this project, the School District will be responsible for procuring and managing consultants and contractors, while the Authority will maintain oversight throughout the process and will provide funding via a grant. The cost of the work, which involves replacement of the HVAC System, is estimated to be $2.6 million.

“We are firmly committed to addressing educational infrastructure needs throughout New Jersey’s 31 SDA Districts,” said SDA Interim CEO Manuel Da Silva. “Approval of funding for this Emergent Project at Pleasantville’s North Main Street School conveys our dedication to providing healthy, safe learning environments for New Jersey’s students.”

Built in 1973, North Main Street School is approximately 56,000 square feet and educates approximately 377 students in Pre-K through 5th grade.

"The Pleasantville Board, community and staff are grateful for the SDA’s commitment to provide funds for emergent repairs at North Main Street School,” said Dr. Clarence Alston, Superintendent of the Pleasantville School District. “The students, of course, will benefit from the work which involves replacing the HVAC system. However, staff members as well can be assured of working in a school where their health and safety are also of paramount importance. Representatives of the SDA visited Pleasantville School District and witnessed firsthand the urgent need at the school. Their concern for students and staff motivated the SDA to move expeditiously to bring funding for the project to fulfillment."

The SDA’s Emergent Project Program addresses emergent conditions in SDA District facilities, often extending the useful life of school buildings. Emergent Projects are those deemed necessary by the Department of Education due to potential health and safety issues. The Emergent Project Program provides assistance to SDA District school facilities in need of repair and rehabilitation. Emergent projects address issues such as the repair or replacement of roofs, windows, exterior masonry, heating and cooling systems, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and security systems. The SDA fully funds emergent projects in the 31 SDA Districts.
