Long Branch High School

The Long Branch High School was originally built in 1924. It is now replaced with a new 4-story high school, housing approximately 1200 students in grades 9 through 12. The 292,000-square-foot facility consists of 75 classrooms, an auditorium, media center, gymnasium, auxiliary gymnasium, vocal and instrumental music rooms, art rooms, science, business, computer and technology labs, and athletic fields.

During the 2006-2007 academic year, the high school restructured into an academy based facility. Each floor of the academic wing is designed for each of the four academies. All freshmen are self-contained into the Ninth Grade Academy. This provides a smoother transition during the following years. The other academies include the School of Leadership: Civic, Business, Educational, the School of the Performing Arts, and the School of Digital Sciences and Complex Mathematics. All of these schools except for the Ninth Grade Academy will have students from sophomore to seniors. Each of the schools will occupy their own individual floor of the academic wing. Students will move off their floor for lunch, gym, music, industrial technologies and visits to the Media Center.

Additional work contained in this construction project included demolition of the old middle school, partial demolition of the existing high school, minimal renovation of the existing high school to remain, site work associated with demolition and renovation of existing fields.

Construction on the project began in late January 2004. Demolition of the middle school was completed in October 2006. Students started attending the new high school in September 2007.

DLR Group Architecture & Engineering, PC designed the project. Gilbane Building Company managed the project that was constructed by Hunt Construction Group, Inc.
