New Amerigo A. Anastasia Elementary School

The new Anastasia Elementary School is a 94,000- square-foot facility located on Seventh Avenue. The 3-story facility houses approximately 600 students from kindergarten through grade five and consists of 37 classrooms, 6 small-group instruction (SGI) rooms, gym, auditorium, kitchen, media center, and community health center.

The school was designed by Tomaino Tomaino Iamello & Associates, P.A. and constructed by Fitzpatrick & Associates, Inc. Gilbane Building Company is the project management firm for the project.

On May 11, 2005 a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the new, state-of-the-art Amerigo A. Anastasia Elementary School. Students, teachers and community leaders joined representatives of the Long Branch School District, the City of Long Branch, and New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation (SCC) for the event marking the newest addition to Long Branch’s educational community.

Dr. Amerigo Anthony Anastasia was a lifelong resident of Long Branch who operated a pharmacy on Broadway. He was a member of the Long Branch High School Class of 1921. From 1949 to 1974, Dr. Anastasia was a member of the Long Branch Board of Education and served as Board President from 1956 to 1967. Dr. Anastasia willingly gave his time and loyalty to the residents of Long Branch. In 1973, the first Amerigo A. Anastasia School was constructed at 318 Morris Avenue and named in his honor.
