School #14 was constructed in the fall of 1886. The land for this facility was purchased in the spring of that year with the sole purpose of using the site for a school facility to relieve crowded conditions in School #4 and #5 Annex. The school opened for classes during the 1887-88 school year. In 1889, a suitable fence and retaining wall were built for the protection of the children. The wall remains in place today. The school currently houses 215 students in grades 1 through 4. The 3-story facility is 16,281-square-feet and is comprised of eleven classrooms. Health and Safety work has been performed at the school. The work included new emergency and exit lighting system, restoration and cleaning of exterior building masonry, replacement of existing stair tower assembly and doors, classroom doors and hardware and windows and roof repair. |
