In an effort to provide over 1,300 high school students with the most suitable environment for academic achievement, the Senior High School building was completely reconstructed. The project consisted of a complete renovation to the existing 128,000-square-foot building and incorporated 134,000-square-feet of new construction, all without the acquisition of new land - more than doubling the size of the original structure. The existing classrooms and cafeterias were renovated and enlarged, with all floors, lighting and ceilings replaced. The project also included a 1,500-seat auditorium, 2-story library, a 3-story math and science wing, a high technology wing that includes a new television studio, 2 computer-aided drafting (CAD) labs, and high tech graphic arts printing, and 8 new classrooms across the center courtyard of the building and auxiliary gymnasiums. The project design incorporated a variety of different structures and details such as geo-thermal heating and air-conditioning to be environmentally friendly and energy efficient. Parking lost by the expanded footprint will be made up by expanding the current Middle School lot on Heck Avenue and using the additional space at the recently opened High School Annex across Neptune Boulevard. Gilbane Building Company managed the construction of the facility. Kellenyi Johnson Wagner designed the project; the general construction contractor is Torcon Inc. A dedication ceremony was held October 14, 2006. The Neptune School District was approved for a high school auxiliary gymnasium by the NJ Department of Education (DOE). As part of the approval, it was determined that funding originally intended for the auxiliary gym would be used for the shell of the aquatic center. All other costs were deemed ineligible and are being paid for by the District. This project consisted of the addition of an approximately 28,347 square foot, two-story auxiliary gym and pool facilities, at the northeast corner of the existing Neptune High School. The project included altering the existing high school main storage room and loading dock receiving bay to provide an internal corridor providing a direct connection to the auxiliary gym from the existing high school athletic wing. The auxiliary gym pool facilities accommodate the district and the local community. The project was designed by Kelenyi Johnson Wagner Architects with LiRo Program & Construction Management, P.C. served as the construction management firm. Patock Construction Company was awarded the general construction contract July 18, 2008. The Aquatic Center Opening Ceremony was held on February 27, 2010. |
