The new Long Branch Middle School is located on the site of the old High School/Middle School complex. The building covers a total of 247,000 square feet and houses approximately 1100 students. It is a 3-story school with an attic level for machinery. The facility contains a total of 68 classrooms. The school also includes a media center, science labs, and geo-thermal heating/cooling system. Geo-thermal heating/cooling is a well system that permits the school to be more energy efficient and more environmentally friendly. The new middle school also serves as a Red Cross emergency shelter for the community. Construction on the project began in late August 2003. The design firm was the alliance of Einhorn Yaffee Prescott Architecture/Engineering and DCM Architecture Inc. Skanska USA Building Inc. constructed the project. Glbane Building Company is the project management firm. On November 30, 2005, Long Branch students joined teachers, school district officials, community leaders and New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation (SCC) representatives in an Open House and ribbon-cutting ceremony. |
