P.J. Hill Elementary School

Approximately 100,000 square feet of the 1972 wing of the P.J. Hill Elementary School was renovated and reconfigured. The existing wing had been originally designed in the style of “California open space” an outmoded architectural concept. The renovation reconfigured this space, which allows it to be used more efficiently. The project included space reconfigured to provide for more classrooms, a new media center and computer, science and technology laboratories. To accommodate students during the renovation, eight classrooms were created in the school gymnasium, which served as swing space until the work was completed.

The DLR Group’s design for the space allowed the school itself to be reconfigured from a preschool-5th grade facility with 450 students to a new preschool-8th grade capacity, with a student population of 650.

The contractor for the renovation, which began in January of 2004, was Hall Construction Company Incorporated. The construction work on the project was completed in December 2005. Hill International is the Project Management Firm.
