The “Park School” is a new elementary school built on a 4.7 acre site fronting the corner of Verona Avenue and Manchester Place in the North Ward of Newark that addresses overcrowding at Abington and Ridge Schools. The school is referred to as the “Park School” because of its location adjacent to Branch Brook Park. The facility is a new 118,638-square-foot, three-story elementary school for grades Pre-K thru 8th for 690 students. The school includes general use classrooms, a cafeteria and kitchen, auditorium, gymnasium, music rooms, District-funded health clinic, support spaces and playground areas. The facility includes on-grade parking. The architectural firm RJF Fletcher Thomson designed the school that was constructed by Terminal Construction Corporation. The school opened in September 2009. |
