The new Speedway Elementary School, which opened to students September 2, 2010, replaces the original Speedway Elementary School. The new school is located on a 2.67-acre site on South Orange Avenue just west of the Garden State Parkway and across from Vailsburg Park. The new 121,373-square-foot three-story school will educate 690 students in grades pre-kindergarten to 8. Classrooms are located in an academic wing furthest away from South Orange Avenue. The school has an auditorium, cafeteria, gymnasium, media center, dance studio and health clinic to support the educational program and serve as community resources. The architects, RJF Fletcher Thompson, worked with the district and community to develop the school concept. Bovis Lend Lease, Inc. was the project management firm. Delric Construction Inc. constructed the project. Current plans call for the old Speedway School be demolished. |
