Marcus W. Newcomb Middle School received a health and safety rehabilitation during the summer of 2003. This project, designed by Design Collaborative, Architects and Planners, involved the installation of new windows with updated masonry, as well as substantial improvements to the building’s heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system. These improvements included the replacement of boilers, the installation of additional ventilation equipment, and the installation of expansion and holding tanks. In addition to these upgrades, existing asbestos was removed. Wheelchair lifts were installed, in order to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Lastly, the public address system was upgraded. The project’s contractor was the Fletcher-Harlee Corporation. Newcomb Middle School houses 612 students. |
