Health and safety projects at the Helen A. Fort Middle School were completed during the summer of 2003. New windows with new masonry were installed. The vinyl asbestos tile was replaced with vinyl ceramic tile. The existing heating, ventilation and air conditioning system were upgraded and expanded. New boilers and new ice storage tanks were installed. The fire alarm system was upgraded. A new emergency generator was installed, along with new emergency lighting. The bathrooms, water fountains and doors were all modified in order to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The floor was refinished. The contractor for this project was the Fletcher-Harlee Corporation. Independent of this project, the sidewalks that surround the school were upgraded in order to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Fort Middle School houses 910 students. |
