Description of Project:
The New Wilbur Watts Intermediate School accommodates approximately 500 students in grades three through six as well as the Board of Education offices in 104,452 square feet of new construction space. Educational space includes (19) classrooms, (4) special education classrooms, (3) science classrooms, a state-of-the-art media center/library/audio visual rooms, computer labs, art room, music room, gymnasium, group and distant learning rooms, and cafetorium. A new 500-seat auditorium, funded through a local referendum, will be available to community groups after school hours. In addition, this campus houses a separate maintenance facility and the District’s main football field and track. New children’s basketball courts and play equipment are situated in proximity to the new building.

Bids for the construction phase of the project were received in January 2004; construction began in May 2004. The new Wilbur Watts Intermediate School opened May 7, 2007. During the first quarter of 2008 the old facility will be razed and the site developed for parking area and athletic fields that will be ready for use by Wilbur Watts students by September 2008. Ernest Bock & Sons, Inc. is the general contractor and Hill International, Inc. is the project management firm.
