New Jersey Schools Development Authority Announces Completion of New Denbo-Crichton Elementary School in Pemberton
The New Jersey Schools Development Authority (NJSDA) today announced the completion of construction activities for the new Denbo-Crichton Elementary School in Pemberton, New Jersey. This much needed educational facility was brought to completion for the 2020-2021 school year, providing additional facility and technology resources for the students of Pemberton during this most extraordinary year.
"Through this challenging time for school districts, administrators, teachers, students and families, the School Development Authority continues to deliver the school facilities and educational technology that students need in order for them to reach their full potential," said Governor Phil Murphy. "I want to thank the Authority as well as the Pemberton school district in their efforts to building this educational facility that will help connect and educate thousands of students for generations to come."
NJSDA’s important construction work was deemed essential throughout the ongoing pandemic in order to ensure that facilities such as this reached completion. The new Denbo-Crichton Elementary School replaced the former Denbo and Crichton facilities to address overcrowding issues and to deliver spaces that align with New Jersey Department of Education Standards. This facility represents a total state investment of $58.7 million, delivers more than 126,000 square-feet of new construction, and provides approximately 930 new student seats for Pemberton students.
"The NJSDA continues to be a leader in school construction, delivering high quality educational facilities in order to fulfill this Administration's commitment to students in Pemberton and throughout the State," said NJSDA CEO Manuel Da Silva. "We appreciate the partnership with Pemberton school district officials and legislative representatives to bring this project to completion. NJSDA’s dedicated staff and construction partners delivered a new school that has the educational spaces and technology needed to support Denbo-Crichton students on their path to academic success."
The Denbo-Crichton school facility includes 47 classrooms (including self-contained special education space) and features a multi-purpose room with a stage, a gymnasium, a science demonstration room, an art room, a technology lab, a vocal music room, and a computer lab. Consistent with NJSDA standards, this school was delivered with 1:1 student-device technology, an educational necessity now more than ever before. The technology provided for students attending this school stands ready to support student learning as educators navigate these extraordinary times.
As a result of SDA's commitment to building energy-efficient buildings that consider the surrounding environment, this school was built to be LEED (United States Green Building Council – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified. The SDA anticipates that the new Denbo-Crichton Elementary School building will achieve a LEED certification.
The school was built using a design-build approach. The design-build method differs from the traditional design-bid-build approach by allowing the SDA to contract with one firm for both design and construction of a school facilities project. Ernest Bock & Sons, Inc. was the design-build contractor, and worked in partnership with SSP Architectural Group on the design. The project was managed by Cambridge Construction, Inc.
