(Formerly known as Bangs Avenue Elementary)
NOTE: The SDA, in cooperation with the Department of Education, conducted a review of all projects previously in the 2008 Capital Plan that were not yet in construction. These projects were closely evaluated using criteria such as educational need, cost efficiency and potential for design standardization. The 2011 Capital Program was reviewed and approved by the SDA Board of Directors on March 2, 2011. The SDA will continue to have ongoing conversations with the districts so that their projects may be able to advance in subsequent years.
This project consists of the construction of a new Pre-Kindergarten to 5th grade elementary school, including new Board of Education Offices, the demolition of the existing elementary school and construction of new outdoor physical education and play areas and parking lot. The school will educate 521 students and will include 29 classrooms and other specialized instructional areas, cafetorium, gymnasium, media center and required administrative spaces. The facility will also contain Board of Education offices.
Construction of the project will be done in phases to allow the existing Barack H. Obama Elementary School to remain occupied until completion of the new facility and then demolition of the existing building would occur, followed by construction of the outdoor physical education/play area and parking.
