NEW BRUNSWICK – New Jersey Schools Development Authority (SDA) and New Brunswick Board of Education officials today celebrated the opening of the new 2,000-student New Brunswick High School, which will provide 21st century educational opportunities and help spur economic development.
The new 400,000-square-foot New Brunswick High School, set to open to students next month, features four educational wings, athletic facilities, a gymnasium, an auditorium and administrative spaces.
"This high school is the result of close collaboration with New Brunswick’s city, educational and civic leaders," SDA CEO Kris Kolluri said. "The SDA is proud to have played its part and is dedicated to continuing to deliver safe, efficient, modern schools for the students of New Jersey."
The SDA provided full funding and oversight for the state-designated “demonstration project.” These projects provide community features and spur redevelopment. The school, whose auditorium, gymnasium and health-care center are among its shared community spaces, will serve as an anchor for proposed housing and commercial redevelopment activities in the Route 27 corridor redevelopment area.
The New Brunswick Housing and Redevelopment Authority, which served as the redevelopment entity, and the New Brunswick Development Corp., which served as redeveloper, managed the work. Vitetta provided architectural services. RBA Group was the civil engineer and PMK Group performed environmental consulting. Joseph Jingoli & Son, Inc. provided construction management and general contracting services.
New Brunswick Superintendent Richard Kaplan said: "The opportunities our students will have to become leaders and productive members in the 21st century have been enhanced by providing them with a school facility that brings them so much closer to their future."
Since inception, the school construction program has completed 614 projects in SDA Districts. In addition to 50 new schools, it has opened 44 extensive additions, renovations and/or rehabilitations; six demonstration projects and more than 500 other projects.
