Paterson School District Holds Ribbon Cutting for New Science Academy New P.A.N.T.H.E.R. Academy is Result of Partnership with NASA |
| Paterson, NJ (September 9, 2004) – New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation (SCC) representatives joined Paterson School District educators, area officials and community supporters today for a ribbon cutting ceremony for the P.A.N.T.H.E.R. (Paterson And NASA Together for High Expectations and Results) Academy, a unique new state-of-the-art aerospace studies high school designed for students pursuing a math and science curriculum. |

The event featured a Ribbon Cutting, Planetarium presentation, and tours of the new 30,000-square-foot structure. The P.A.N.T.H.E.R. Academy’s 10 new classrooms, chemistry labs, physics lab, computer lab, and media center are providing educational opportunities for approximately 200 high school students. P.A.N.T.H.E.R. Academy is a partnership between the Paterson School District and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
The SCC provided $9.8 million in funding and oversaw construction of the new science academy in the North Jersey municipality as part of the state’s school construction program. Built by Joseph A. Natoli Construction Corporation and designed by Comerro Coppa Architects, the P.A.N.T.H.E.R. Academy also includes a 15,000-square-foot, 3-story planetarium dome. |

We are living up to our most important obligation by providing 21st century facilities to ensure every child has the opportunity to get the education they deserve and the skills necessary to be a 21st century leader," said SCC CEO John F. Spencer.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. John Sico stated, "Any construction or renovation project requires the concerted effort, perseverance, stamina, and patience of many people. Additionally, it requires vision, commitment, and belief, in this case, that the education of our children is important and our children are important for the future of our country, society, and community." |

| Approaching its second birthday, SCC has hundreds of school construction projects under way and is making tremendous progress in the building of quality schools statewide. SCC is responsible for implementing New Jersey's $8.6 billion school building program – the largest public construction program ever undertaken by the State of New Jersey, and one of the largest programs of its type ever undertaken in the nation. |
