Woodbridge, NJ (February 20, 2004) - Staff from several SCC divisions presented at a workshop sponsored by the New Jersey Business and Industry Association (NJBIA) today. The program entitled “Building the Schools Update: How to Participate in NJ's $12 Billion Construction” was the seventh that the SCC led for NJBIA members. It is yet another part of the aggressive marketing the SCC is doing to raise awareness about specific program initiatives, especially within the private sector. This presentation comes on the heals of forums held for contractors, consultants and subcontractors in recent weeks.

Key SCC program managers gave timely updates on the school construction program’s status. Chief Operating Officer Jerry Murphy gave an overview of accomplishments the SCC has posted so far, outlined goals for 2004 and talked about challenges ahead. Barbara Bohi, Director of Policy reviewed the new "Schools of the 21st Century" design and construction initiative, discussed design/build policies and procedures and describe new diversity efforts to include more small business, minority and women-owned firms in the program. The SCC’s Managing Director for Contract Procurement Administration, Andrew Yosha, outlined the prequalification process, the procedures for working with the SCC for both contractors and design consultants, the payment process and explained the newly implemented “Wrap-up” Insurance Program. Donald Moore, Managing Director for Design and Construction discussed the Project Management Firm process.

Representatives from Project Management Firms designated for specific regions around the state also provided information about upcoming projects that will be out to be in the coming months. The audience was invited to take part in a question and answer session throughout the program.
