New Magnet K-8 School Project

A new Magnet Integrated Arts School for grades 1 through 8 is to be built as part of the Union City Renaissance Project. It will be an anchor for the area's rebirth, bringing education, business and community together for the betterment of Union City.

The facility will create a symbolic presence in the area, acting as a beacon to bring redevelopment, tax incentives for owner-occupied one-to-three family homes and new tax ratables.

The school located on the Paterson Plank Road encompasses two city blocks at the southwestern boundary of Union City adjoining Jersey City and North Bergen. The site is bordered by John F. Kennedy Boulevard, Paterson Plank Road, 5th Street and 6th Street. Summit Avenue bisects the site from north to south.

The auditorium for performing arts is to be located on the block alongside Paterson Plank Road, and the classrooms will be placed on the block between Summit Avenue and JFK Boulevard.

This new multi-storied school will include:

  • Performing arts auditorium
  • Media Center
  • Cafeteria
  • Approximately 40 classrooms
  • Music and vocal studios
  • Art studios
  • Science labs and technology rooms
  • Special Education rooms
  • Parking for staff
  • Gymnasium
