Breaks Ground for 2 School Projects in Neptune Township

NJ (October 16, 2003) - The New Jersey Schools Construction Corporation
(SCC) held groundbreaking ceremonies today to mark the start of the
construction of additions and renovations to Neptune High School and
Green Grove Elementary School in Neptune Township, Monmouth County.
Educators, state, county and local officials, students and supporters
were on hand for the two events.
The high school
on Neptune Boulevard will undergo a 270,000-square-foot upgrade - a
new 140,000-square-foot addition and renovations to a 130,000-square-foot
area. The addition will include 64 classrooms, media center, science
lab and auditorium. Renovations will include new lighting, ceilings,
doors and HVAC. The current construction cost estimate is $47 million.

Improvements at
the elementary school on Green Grove Road will include a 28,700-square-foot
addition, and renovations to an existing 34,661-square-foot area. The
addition will include classrooms, cafetorium and gym; renovations will
include new ceilings, lighting and air-conditioning throughout. The
current construction cost estimate is $8.3 million.
The projects, scheduled
for completion in 2005, are being fully funded and managed by the SCC
as part of the State's $8.6 billion school construction program that
is helping to revitalize the community, bringing jobs and targeted growth
to the area.
"This new construction
in Neptune Township represents New Jersey's continued commitment to
our children. We are living up to our most important obligation by providing
21st century facilities to ensure that every child has the opportunity
to get the education they deserve and the skills necessary to start
school," said Governor McGreevey.

to provide access to modern technology and a thoughtful environment
which is conducive to student achievement," Governor McGreevey added.

educational facilities at the Green Grove Elementary School and Neptune
High School is a 'watershed event.' The school renovation and addition
at both school sites, which will serve the vocational, fine arts and
educational needs of over 2,100 pupils into the 21st century, highlights
the best in educational practices and research, combined with cutting
edge school design that will strengthen the educational mission of the
district for decades to come."
Jack Spencer, new CEO of the SCC, noted, "These projects in Neptune
Township are examples of the progress made in implementing New Jersey
's historic school construction initiative. They are representative
of the many quality school facilities that will be built throughout
the state under the educational facilities law."
Under the Educational
Facilities Construction and Financing Act, the SCC is responsible for
school projects throughout the State. The program is the largest public
construction program ever undertaken by the State of New Jersey and
represents one of the largest programs of its type ever undertaken in
the nation.
