School Construction up 150% as EDA heeds Governor' s call to streamline process
Trenton, NJ (August
8, 2002) – Over the past several months the NJ Economic Development
Authority (EDA) has had a series of discussions with the Governor and
his staff regarding streamlining the school construction process to
expedite the completion of much needed school construction projects.
These streamlining efforts are already producing measurable results.
Record construction starts during July 2002 show the Governor's program
efficiencies and EDA's efforts are working. At of the end of July 2002,
the EDA had issued a total of 100 Notices to Proceed (NTPs) to contractors
in order to start construction, 64 of those NTPs were issued over the
course of a year, between July 2001 and June 30, 2002. This past July
, EDA issued 36 NTPs resulting in over a 50% increase. More significantly,
the dollar value of the projects during the month of July totaled
$114 million, making the cumulative value of construction projects underway
or completed jump from approximately $75 million to $190 million-a 150%
increase!
Governor McGreevey's
guidance and support of the school construction program have been instrumental
in the increasing momentum of the school construction program. Below
is the July 2002 status report that depicts by school district, the
school and type of repair work underway.
